Grace that Won't Let Go Devotional

Gateway Worship just released their new album “Walls” and one of my favorite songs from the album is “Grace that Won’t Let Go”. The entire song is about grace and the lyrics describe God’s amazing grace beautifully. You have heard of the power of God’s grace, but have you truly experienced it? Embracing grace means you find the freedom to stop letting your past define you. God has given us freedom to make choices and this means we make mistakes. He wants us to learn from them, not dwell in them forever. Grace brings beauty to everything in your life and strengthens you from the inside out. Imagine just how much better the world could be if we all soaked in just a little more of God’s grace. We would become stronger, live bolder and love deeper.

Here are some thoughts about “Grace that Won’t Let Go” to help you ponder what grace means in your life.

Grace is Constant

Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Grace is constant and not dependent on whether we are experiencing our strongest or weakest moments. We wander away and come running back home to God. His grace is constant and unfailing. These lyrics explain how we all have ups and downs in life: “Sometimes I’m strong | Sometimes I’m weak | Sometimes I fall in my wandering | But through it all | There’s just one thing | More precious than the air I breath.”

Grace is Limitless

Romans 6:12-14 “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”

As people living in an imperfect world, we have to have limits and boundaries and even have to shut a door that breaks our hearts to shut. The beauty about this is that God has limitless power, resources and His grace and love never run out. He makes miracles happen and uses many people to accomplish what we sometimes assume is impossible. These lyrics remind us of this, “Grace | Unending grace | Unrelenting grace.”

Grace Covers Your Past

1 Peter 5:10 “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

Do you feel plagued by your past? Maybe the people around you keep reminding you of every mistake you made years ago. It’s hard to change when those who you feel should support you are fleeing from you. Fortunately, God doesn’t work like this. He knows where your heart is and has more than enough grace and love to redeem every part of your past and transform it into something beautiful for your future. These lyrics remind us of this, “You took our sin | You took our stain | You took our guilt | Now there is no shame.”

Grace is Forever

Acts 20:32 “And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Can you fully comprehend what forever means? Seasons in life can go quickly, especially if you are raising children, working and have an endlessly busy schedule. Nothing about our lives lasts forever, as people who are older will attest to. God’s love never ends and He never stops chasing after us to show us how great His love is. He’s always with you, knows what you are going through and rejoices during the happy times and is holding you in times of sorrow. These lyrics remind me of this, “Your love, forever it will last | Your blood will always save | Grace will always win.”
