Why Celebrate Good Friday?

Christians commemorate the day of Good Friday, when Jesus was crucified, to glorify and give thanks for Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our salvation. Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane with the sorrow of His coming persecution but accepted the will of the Father, saying "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." (Matthew 26:39)
