Top 10 Christian Songs and Hymns About Prayer

Communication is essential in any healthy relationship. We communicate to give praise to others and express our desires. It can be verbal or nonverbal, and each form can send a different message than the other. It is important for believers to be communicating with their creator (God) in a similar way, expressing adoration of Him, confessing our sins, giving thanks, and sharing our desires. We communicate with God through prayer.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ~ Philippians 4:6

"Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” ~ Matthew 26:41

Top 10 Christian Songs about Prayer

The following is a list of songs that reflect some aspect of prayer and communication with God.

10. “Take My Life (And Let It Be)” by Chris Tomlin

Favorite Lyric: “Take my will and make it Thine, it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is Thine own, it shall be Thy royal throne. Take my love, my Lord I pour at Your feet, it's treasure store. Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.”

When we give God our lives He does marvelous things for His Glory and our good. Following his lead will provide the opportunity for obedience, serving Him, and full assurance that God will do marvelous things through those who give their lives to Him.

9. “Lead Me To The Cross” by Hillsong United

Favorite Lyric: “Lead me to the cross where Your love poured out. Bring me to my knees, Lord I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Lead me, lead me to the cross.”

At the cross, we find the love of God was displayed in full. When we finally set ourselves aside and reflect on what Christ did on the cross to bridge the divide between us and God we realize that the cross is much more than a symbol on a church or that we wear around our neck. The cross provided a way of restoration through the blood of Jesus Christ.

8. “The Lord’s Prayer” by Shane & Shane

Favorite Lyric: “Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed by Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.”

The Lord’s Prayer is taken straight from scripture (Matthew 6). Here in the Bible Jesus instructs His followers in how to pray and this is a “formula” for prayer that still holds true today.

7. “Lord, I Need You” by Matt Mahar

Favorite Lyric: “Lord, I come, I confess. Bowing here, I find my rest. Without You, I fall apart. You're the One, that guides my heart.”

6. “Here’s My Heart” by David Crowder

Favorite Lyric: “‘Cause I am found, I am Yours. I am loved, I'm made pure. I have life, I can breathe. I am healed, I am free.”

5. “Give Us Clean Hands” by Chris Tomlin

Favorite Lyric: “Give us clean hands and give us pure hearts. Let us not lift our souls to another.”

When we “lift our souls to another” we don’t honor God. We idolize something or someone else and turn it/them into an idol. God wants our full attention and He also wants to cleanse us.

4. “Thank You Lord” by Paul Baloche

Favorite Lyric: “I come before You today, and there's just one thing that I want to say: Thank You.

Giving thanks to God is all a part of the prayer process. When we thank God for each day He brings we express our thankfulness to Him.

3. “Yearn” by Shane & Shane

Favorite Lyric: “Lord, I want to yearn for You. I want to burn with passion over You and only You.”

Our desire should be to have a yearning for God in our hearts so strong that we want to tell everyone about Him and grow in our relationship with Him ourselves. Passion like that sustains our lives for the long hall. Are you yearning for God?

2. “Open The Eyes Of My Heart” by Paul Baloche

Favorite Lyric: “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord. Open the eyes of my heart. I want to see You. I want to see You”

1. “Fill Me Up” by Will Reagan

Favorite Lyric: “Love of God, Overflow. Permeate all my soul.”

When understanding prayer we need to understand that prayer shouldn’t drain us but it should fill us. Prayer should be the never-ceasing overflow out of our hearts.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV).

Prayer is essential to a growing relationship with God. Communication is necessary for any glowing healthy relationship. God is not a distant God way off in the distance, but He is right with you and He lives in you. He is with you every step of the way. Make efforts today to grow in your prayer walk with God.
