The 4-Letter Word That's Quietly Killing Your Faith
August 03, 2026

We live in a busy generation. Always on our phones, always doing something, always moving to the next thing before we've even finished the last one.
And when someone asks how we're doing, the answer is almost always the same: busy. We say it so much that it barely means anything anymore. But listen to what we're actually saying underneath it, we don't have time in the morning. We can't spend time with the Lord. We're just too busy. That's exactly what the enemy wants.
Being Under Satan's Yoke
A pastor once broke down the word “busy” for me as an acronym, B-U-S-Y: Being Under Satan's Yoke. I haven't been able to shake it since.
Think about it. The enemy doesn't need to convince most of us to walk away from God outright. That's too obvious, too easy to catch. All he has to do is keep us busy enough that we never get around to sitting with the Lord in the first place. No dramatic fall required, just a full calendar and a tired mind that never has margin left for anything eternal.
Chasing What Fades
Here's the thing about most of what keeps us busy, it's temporary. The job, the notifications, the to-do list, the scroll. None of it is eternal. It fades fast, and it takes our attention with it while it lasts.
1 John 2:17 - “The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
The Lord isn't temporary. He's eternal. And if we're spending all our time and energy on the things of earth, we're pouring ourselves into what's going to fade, while the one thing that lasts keeps getting pushed to tomorrow.
Sharpen the Spirit, Renew the Mind
We've got to make time for the Lord, not as one more task on the list, but because it's the thing that actually sharpens everything else. Our minds get renewed daily by staying in the Word and actually spending time with Him, not just knowing about Him from a distance.
Romans 12:2 - “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
That renewal doesn't happen automatically. It happens in the minutes we actually give Him, even when the calendar says we don't have any to spare.
Knowing Him Is How We Bring Others to Him
Here's what I keep coming back to: the more we actually know Him, not just know about Him, the more naturally we bring others along with us. You can't hand someone something you don't have. If our own relationship with God is running on fumes, buried under busyness, we don't have much to offer the people around us either. Getting to know Him isn't just for us. It overflows.
Where This Leaves Us
Busyness isn't neutral. It's one of the quietest, most effective tools the enemy has, because it doesn't look like rebellion, it looks responsible. It looks normal. It looks like everyone else's life, too. But the things on this earth are going to fade fast. What's eternal won't. So it's worth asking what's actually filling our time, and whether it's building something that lasts.
Reflection Questions
1. When you say “I'm busy,” what is that time actually going toward?
2. Where in your day could you carve out even five minutes to actually be with the Lord, not just think about Him?
3. Who in your life would benefit from you knowing God more deeply — not from what you say, but from what overflows out of you?
