Teacher and Fellow Students Support Young Girl Battling Cancer With Her Favorite Thing, Music

When one of her students got diagnosed with a rare disease, a Virginia music teacher took a big step to support the young girl with cancer in a very special way. The 7-year-old, Khalani Jennings, loves music. So her teacher, Mrs. Kaiser, and the whole school dedicated its spring concert to her in support of her cancer journey.

“I knew right away that I wanted to be able to support her as her music teacher, in whatever capacity that I could,” said the teacher, Dominee Kaiser.

Khalani had embryonal sarcoma of the liver and a cancerous tumor that weighed 12 pounds that had to be removed.

Dominee and her students made Khalani care packages and visited her at the hospital in another city. Dominee’s heart was to keep Khalani feeling included.

A Heartwarming Tribute

During the spring concert, the school sang “Rise Up” as a tribute to Khalani, who joined virtually and waved a scarf in time with the music.

Mrs. Kaiser’s classroom is decorated with Taylor Swift fan art. She’s one of Khalani’s favorite singers. Sometimes when the 7-year-old feels sad, she can be found singing Taylor’s song, “Shake It Off.”

Finally Cancer-Free

Khalani finally got to finish her last round of cancer treatment in May, and her classmates are excited to welcome her back in the fall.

“The outpouring of love and support from everyone has meant so much,” said Khalani’s mother, who still tears up when she watches videos of the spring concert.

It’s wonderful that Dominee brought the whole school together to support Khalani and make her feel like she isn’t alone. A little love sure goes a long way.

A Prayer for the One Who Is Afraid of God’s Glory and Power - Your Daily Prayer - June 11

We should revere the Lord, as He is more magnificent than we can imagine. Yet, if we treat Him like a thunderstorm, rolling through in power to wreak havoc wherever and whenever He pleases, then we forget that He is a good God.
