‘The Heart Of Worship’ Live Performance From Matt Redman At Passion
“When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come, longing just to bring
Something that's of worth, that will bless your heart, I'll bring you more than a song
For a song in itself is not what you have required, You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear, You're looking into my heart
I'm coming back to the heart of worship and it's all about you, It's all about you, Jesus”
What a beautiful moment of worship at this Passion Conference. Matt Redman is singing on stage with a handful of other worship artists like Chris Tomlin, Christy Nockels, Kristian Stanfil, and David Crowder.
The huge stadium is packed to the brim with everyone in it singing out the lyrics of the song and praising God together. How powerful is that! But at the same time, even with all of these people singing in the video, there is something that feels close and intimate about this moment of worship.
This inspirational song that reminds us that it’s all about Jesus was written by Matt Redman. The song came out of a season of apathy within Matt’s home church, Soul Survivor, in Watford, England. The congregation was struggling to find meaning during the worship music revival that was happening in the late 1990s.
“There was a dynamic missing, so the pastor did a pretty brave thing,” Matt shares. “He decided to get rid of the sound system and band for a season, and we gathered together with just our voices. His point was that we’d lost our way in worship, and the way to get back to the heart would be to strip everything away.”
This move led the church to experience God in a fresh way. What a great story! May we also use this song to remember to come back to the heart of worship. May we remember to focus on Jesus and not be distracted by the things of this world.
