Your Testimony Does Not Have to Be Dramatic to Be Powerful

Your Testimony Does Not Have to Be Dramatic to Be Powerful

I want to talk about something I think many people feel but do not say out loud. I accepted Jesus in the third grade. I was sitting in a reading corner at school, and my teacher shared the gospel with me. I believed it in my heart. And not long after, my dad baptized me.

That is my story. That is how it started. No rock bottom. No addiction I had to climb out of. No moment where I was so far gone that I cried out to God in desperation. I have never been drunk. Never done drugs. I am saving myself for marriage. I did not live a crazy life. And honestly, for a long time, I felt a little weird about that in church settings. Because if you have spent any time in church, you know what I mean.

There is a certain kind of testimony that gets the room. It’s the person who was deep in addiction, and how God pulled them out. Or it's the one who hit rock bottom and found Jesus there. I want to be clear: Those stories are real, powerful and deserve to be told. If that is your testimony, please never stop sharing it. That is a miracle. God reached into the darkest place in your life and pulled you out, and the world needs to hear that. Never be ashamed of where you came from because of how far He brought you.

But here is what I want the person with the quieter story to hear: Yours matters too. Sometimes it can feel like your testimony does not quite measure up. Like it is too quiet. Too ordinary. Too boring. I want to challenge that today.

Your Testimony Is Not About Your Brokenness

Here is what I have come to understand: Your testimony is not about the level or degree of your brokenness. It is about your rescue. And here is the thing about rescue: It does not require you to have fallen off a cliff first. Every single one of us, regardless of what our lives look like from the outside, needs saving. The Bible leaves no room for debate on that.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” - Romans 3:23

All means all. There isn’t a version of us good enough to be in the presence of God without the grace of Jesus. The person with a dramatic past and the individual with a quiet past both need the same rescue. The cross does not grade on a curve. So, when I think about my third-grade self sitting in that reading corner, a little kid who had not done anything wild, who did not have much baggage yet, I still needed saving. And God still showed up for me. He thought I was worth it, too.

The Journey Since

Now, I want to be real with you, accepting Jesus in third grade did not mean my faith has been a straight line ever since. It has been a journey. There have been ups and downs. There have been seasons where I felt close to God and seasons where doubt crept in, and I questioned His presence.

But here is what I can tell you: Every single time I went through a season of doubt, God showed up. Not always in the big dramatic way. Sometimes it was something small, a conversation, a passage of Scripture that hit different that day, a moment where I just felt Him close. But he always showed up. He has never once let me go.

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 1:6

He started something in me in that reading corner, and He has been faithful to it ever since. That is not boring, and is actually one of the most powerful things I can say.

There Is Beauty in Faithfulness

I also want to say this, and I mean it: There is real beauty in choosing to stay faithful to the Lord before life falls apart. You do not have to go do all the things the world says you need to do to have fun. You do not have to go get drunk to enjoy your twenties. You do not have to live a wild life to have a full one. My life is proof of that. I am having a good time. I am living a full life. And I have not needed any of that to get here. The world will tell you that you are missing out. But the Word says something different.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” - John 10:10

Abundant life. That is the promise. Not a perfect life, not a boring life, an abundant one. And you do not have to hit rock bottom first to receive it.

Fall in Love With Him More Every Day

Whether you gave your life to Jesus at 7 years old in a reading corner or at 40 after everything fell apart, the call is the same. Fall in love with Christ more every single day. Not because of what He can do for you. Not because of the testimony it gives you. But because He is worth it. Both testimonies point to the same Jesus. The one who finds Him in the wreckage and the one who finds Him in the quiet - it’s the same God, same grace and same rescue.

No story is too small, and no story is too broken. He meets all of us exactly where we are. Your story matters. The quiet ones, the faithful ones, the dramatic ones - they all matter. God did not rescue you less just because the story is simpler to tell. And He did not rescue you more just because yours was harder to live through. Your testimony is not about your brokenness. It is about the rescue, the difference Christ makes. And that rescue is everything.

God’s divine intervention and power are always evident in mind-blowing sunsets, torrential storms, or even the spine-tingling roar of wild creatures. But just because God is all-powerful, holding all of creation together, he can still and will always provide quiet direction.
