After Being Diagnosed With Autism at 3, One Man is Following His Dreams and Inspiring Others

After being diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3, one man is following his dreams and inspiring others. When George Lynn was a mere toddler, doctors gave him a diagnosis that could have written the story of his life before he ever had a chance to hold the pen. But George refused to let that label limit him.

More than two decades later, he’s living proof that perseverance—and a bit of grace—can turn what once felt impossible into something beautiful.

George is Working His Dream Job

For the past decade, George has worked as a pharmacy delivery driver at Wegmans in Mount Laurel, a job he calls his dream. Every shift, he shows up with quiet purpose, reminding those around him that determination and heart can open doors that labels try to close.

“I can do more. I want to work in the pharmacy department,” George said.

He started in an entry-level position at the supermarket and worked his way up, step by step. His opportunity arose through The Arc of Camden, an organization that assists individuals with developmental disabilities in finding meaningful employment and advocating for themselves.

He Was Able to Get Help Because of His Autism

“After a while, George said, ‘I can do more. I want to work in the pharmacy department,” shared Jessica Scott, the director of employment services at The Arc of Camden. “So we ended up helping him advocate for a higher role.”

“They taught me how to follow through, like with management, to make sure I was able to get the job,” George said. “I was so grateful.”

Wegmans store manager Todd Allen said what so many have witnessed firsthand: “We hire people for their heart. The training is easy—you can teach them the technical parts of what they do. There’s something for everybody.”

Now He is Inspiring Others With Autism

George now travels to speak about early intervention, supported employment, and what it means to belong. His voice carries the kind of quiet strength that only grows through perseverance and faith.

“Autism does not stop you,” George said. “Because what Arc of Camden County does for these people with disabilities is they make you feel like you’re part of society and not secluded. They want to make you feel included.”

As a mom to two kids on the spectrum, this story feels like sunlight breaking through the clouds. George’s life reminds us that the world is brighter when we make room for every person to bring their gifts to the table.

No diagnosis can define what God has already designed.
