How to Overcome Temptation, Part 86 (Onward Christian Soldiers #210)

Our key Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 10:13: "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

TEXT: Proverbs 24:30-34: "I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man."

This passage reveals the outcome of those who are persistently slothful or lazy. Their lives are held up as an example for others to take heed to. The writer of the passage is passing by the field of a slothful man. This person is also described as one who is "void of understanding." There, at the property of the sluggard, the writer finds that it is overgrown with thorns and nettles. The fence is broken down. There is no fruit growing on the trees. His property is not prosperous.
