‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’ Movie Trailer

Nearly every single Hollywood film falls into one of three clearly-defined categories: Superhero, Sequel or the always-popular Based on a Book/Novel. As popular as the Marvel superhero flicks currently are, Hollywood would be hurting for material if writers ever stopped producing books.

With Hollywood’s apparent determination to turn every work of fiction into a film, it was only a matter of time before Judy Blume’s classic “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” made its way to the big screen.

The trailer for the film begins with quick shots of the main character, Margaret, in a car turning and looking back longingly as her family moves away. Additionally, early on, the trailer makes sure viewers understand that the upcoming film is based on the beloved Blume book. We also soon hear the character, while in prayer, mention the title of the book and now film.

The trailer then shows the main character and several of her female classmates sitting in a sparsely populated auditorium as they listen to a presentation about their changing bodies.

Upset and unable to cope with all the sudden upheaval in her life, Margaret is soon on her knees in prayer, begging God for help.

“I just want to be normal and regular like everybody else. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please.” Margaret prays.

The trailer then shows Margaret and her gal pals confronting new, scary and exciting changes that all adolescent girls face at one time or another. But one of Margaret’s requests, in particular, appears to both shock and horrify her mother.

She asks her mother about wearing a bra.

Margaret’s mother, played by Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Mean Girls), responds with a look of pure bewilderment.

“Oh, do you think you need one?” Margaret’s mother says.

In addition to McAdams, Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates also stars in the film.

Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret opens in theaters on April 28, 2023.

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
