Description: Hamas renews rocket fire from Gaza as 40 missiles explode in southern Israel. According to Haaretz, Hamas has launched a barrage of rockets toward southern Israel on Tuesday afternoon, after months of restraint on behalf of the Gaza rulers. Seven rockets exploded in open areas in Esh-kol Regional Council on Tuesday afternoon, after four rockets were fired at Hof Ash-ke-lon and Sha'ar Han-e-gev regional councils overnight Monday. More rockets were subsequently fired, but caused no casualties or damage. The Israel Air Force has carried out several air strikes in the Gaza Strip in retaliation.

Rare earthquake rattles Melbourne, Australia. According to the AFP, the Australian city of Melbourne was hit by a rare earthquake Tuesday with residents reporting their houses shook and windows rattled, but there were no immediate reports of damage. The US Geological Survey said the 5.2 magnitude quake struck around 74 miles southeast of the Victorian state capital near the town of Moe, at a depth of nine kilometres.

Colombian volcano spews ash, gas, and 'strange noises'. According to the BBC, plumes of smoke and ash are continuing to rise from Colombia's Nevado del Ruiz volcano. People living on its slopes said they had heard "strong, strange noises" coming from the summit of the mountain on Friday and Saturday. Officials say an orange alert first declared three weeks ago is still in place for areas near the summit....
