Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. - Gal 2:16 KJV
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. - Eph 2:10 KJV
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [them]. - Eph 5:11 KJV
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; - 1Ti 6:18 KJV
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: - Col 2:10 KJV
But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. - 1Cr 6:17 KJV
For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. - 2Cr 5:21 KJV
Conclusion: who we are is justified, righteous, holy, and clean. Our inner man is one with God, at peace with God, "in" God, and loved by God. Pleasing the Lord scriptures seem to be directed toward our behavior concerning what we do or don't do. Pleasing him deals with the outward walking out of the life within. "Pleasing" seems to always address the outward. I.e. doing pleasing things, or pleasing the Lord with our deeds. We can certainly be justified and righteous in the inner man and then do things that are not pleasing --
