the birds in flight..

- and if you should fall
and hurt yourself
just pick up
a fistful of dust
from a moving road
to smear
on living wounds

- and if you should choke
inside clouds
of flying earth
reach out and catch
a fistful of morning air
from falling nights

Move on
always
for if you should stop
wounds will harden
under muddy coats

Worlds will shrink
Time will die
Words will break
inside choking throats, and
dead memories will reign
over a paralysed past.
