Giant Pandas Enjoy Their Snow Day At The Smithsonian Zoo

Snow has a way of calling out the kid in all of us. And that’s especially the case for these adorable giant pandas enjoying their snow day at the Smithsonian Zoo.

Popping up in the ‘most popular’ stories on the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute Facebook Page, this video brings a belly-full of joy.

Watch as Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, the lovable duo of giant pandas are caught on the National Zoo’s Giant Panda Cam sliding, rolling, and reveling in a beautiful snow day. The video doesn’t indicate which panda is delivering these on-screen antics, but it’s probable they were both at play this snowy day.

Using an ample panda backside as a built-in sled, one panda launches snow-angel-style upside down along a slippery slope with arms out wide in glee. With eager “do it again!” determination, the panda ambles back up to the top for another go.

What’s even more hysterical is the way the panda continues to roll over and over again—eight times!—even when he’s already reached the flattened ground at the bottom of the hill. It’s evidently a thrill, that in this panda’s heart, bears repeating.

The zoo cam footage also captures a fine moment of fun, when the panda simply throws down a somersault...just because. What could be a gray, dreary day of retreating from the cold and slush, is being embraced as invitation to adventure.

This heart-warming video’s apt hashtag of #NatZooZen makes this “Happy Snow Day!” shoutout a motivating reminder to us all: that taking time to enjoy what God gives freely is worth watching...and doing.

The panda’s playful attitude to appreciate even this thin layer of newly-fallen snow ignites the sense of wonder that every snowflake—and every expression of gratitude—creates.

“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
