A Cappella 'American Pie' From Home Free And Don McLean
A cappella sensations Home Free join with legendary artist Don McLean for a special rendition of ‘American Pie.’ Don wrote this hit in 1971 and it quickly climbed to the top of the music charts.
“I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
Something touched me deep inside
The day the music died”
Home Free is an American a cappella group that competed and won in the fourth season of The Sing-Off on NBC in 2013. The members of the group are Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Rupp, Tim Foust, and Adam Chance. They’ve become viral sensations with their covers of hit songs such as ‘Ring Of Fire’ and ‘How Great Thou Art.
Today, they are teaming up with original singer-songwriter, Don McLean for an a cappella performance of ‘American Pie.’ On Instagram, the group shared the powerful story behind the song.
“American Pie was written 50 years ago by Don McLean in honor of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Big Popper, and Ritchie Valens on February 3 1959.”
“So, bye-bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
And them good ol' boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', ""This'll be the day that I die”
These iconic words have truly stood the test of time and they continue to resonate with hearts all over the world. What an incredible tribute to these once-in-a-lifetime artists and to Don’s original piece. Who else was singing along with this unforgettable chorus?
