In the Garden - Alan Jackson - Fisher of Men

My grandmother, Verneille Whitworth, was not always a servant of God. Like so many of us, much of her life was spent lost and stumbling in the dark. Yet when the light came upon her she knew what she was truly looking for. Jesus came so that we may have life, and not just life but abundant life. When my grandmother received this life her heart was changed and along with her heart, her desires. Nothing was more valuable to her than sharing her faith and teaching the world about the love of our risen LORD.

I was in 5th grade when I learned that my grandmother had Alzheimer's disease. I had never heard of Alzheimer's before that day, but I have not forgotten it since. Over the years her mind deteriorated. She would leave to go on walks and not return because she had gotten lost. Even her vast knowledge of the Scripture began to fade away.

My mother told me that after she began to lose her ability for speech, my grandmother was given a new and holy language. She spoke to the LORD in tongues. Despite her illness, the LORD had not forsaken her. He had given her a language by which she could communicate with Him.

On February 19th, 1996, my grandmother went home to be with the LORD. She had requested years before, knowing that she was dying, that this song be played at her funeral. As I created this video in her memory I understood why. For once my dear grandmother came to know Jesus, she walked with Him daily.
