Book Video: Black American in the Desert Kingdom
Before the gulf wars and the current Age of Terrorism, American Adam Sneed spent five years in Saudi Arabia uncovering mysteries about the society never before revealed; he was introduced to a large community of Black Saudi citizens (freed from slavery in 1962) he never knew existed; Adam was showered with legendary Bedouin hospitality and even found romance during his tenure in Arabia. In addition he inadvertently sparked an unlikely basketball rivalry between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia during an international tournament. This story takes place in a setting as diverse as the people of the Arabian Peninsula. Adam visits oceanside villages with breathtaking panoramic views of the gulf; sees the verdant region of Mejmaah near the Kuwaiti border when the annual rains turn the area into a virtual garden of lush vegetation; he is transfixed by the awesome mountainous terrain of Abha and crosses the awe-inspiring Saudi Arabian desert beneath a heavenly canopy so filled with stars that he can read by their light.
