Tears Before Joy

"17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron." - Psalms 105:17-18
Humility always comes before honor, and tears before joy. We read in Psalms 105 about Joseph. Joseph was the youngest of his brothers, and the favorite of his father because he was the son of his old age. The Bible says that his brothers could not speak peaceably to him, which means any time that they spoke to him, they spoke to him with contempt. Joseph was a young man who went through some very difficult times. He was betrayed by his own brothers and was sold as a slave into Egypt. While there, he was falsely accused, and was put in prison. But the story does not end there. The Bible says in Acts chapter 7, "...but God was with him, and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house." Although it is true that Joseph went through some very difficult times, the fact remains that God was with him and exalted him to a position of great authority. The same feet which were hurt with fetters later walked on streets of gold.

A Prayer for Spending Money - Your Daily Prayer - May 29
No one is immune to the negative hold that money can have on our hearts in plenty or in want. I am a spender. I like to shop and get new things. However, God has taught me throughout my life to pray about my spending and to listen to the still, small voices that lead me in my financial decisions. God desires us to live a life of generosity, putting God before money. We cannot serve both God and money.
