Billy Graham Reminds Us There Is A High Cost For Following God
In this amazing video, Billy Graham reminds us that there is a high cost for following God.
Billy Graham gave this message at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Florida in 1983. He is teaching on Luke 14. He talks about young people turning to Christ more than any other time in the history of America. He emphasizes that to surrender to Jesus, we need to submit, “our bodies, our minds, and our hearts.” Billy teaches about Eve not having control over her body. He brings the point of the “lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.” Billy warns us of the one moment of weakness that it takes to ruin our lives.
Billy tells of the drug issue in the day and how it is destroying the youth of the country and the struggle of sex. He encourages us of Scripture that says that we are to “flee” from temptations. He says that “you can't say no, but with the power of Christ you can.” He shares the gift of escape given from God. Billy then addresses the issue of ⅓ of America being overweight. He says some cannot help it because of genetics. He provides Biblical examples where our bodies are to be for His glory.
Billy warns that the media is competing for your attention. Billy encourages us to study the Bible as much as we can. He warns that we put other things above Jesus. Billy says, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” Billy shares that we are to have Christ renew our minds with His peace.
Lastly, Billy teaches them about the heart. He tells of the teaching that our hearts are evil and deceptive. Billy says that God emphasizes our hearts. Billy says Jesus fought with the religious people, not the sinners. He loved the sinners. Billy warns of the heart issues among the church. He reminds us that God searches our hearts and this would be horrifying except for the grace of Jesus.
Billy closes by sharing that God gives us a new heart wherever we accept Jesus and the Holy Spirit comes in us. He then invites the audience to accept Jesus and have a new heart and a transformed life. As the choir sings “Just As I Am,” many people come and receive Christ! This is truly a timeless message that still applies to us today.
“And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:27
