Singing Walmart Cashier Overcomes Nerves To Earn Ticket To Hollywood

Feelings of anxiety can cause people to question themselves and lose confidence in their abilities. But one young man was able to put apprehension aside and get one step closer to achieving his dream.

Going after your dreams requires an enormous amount of determination and confidence. That’s because, on the road to success, there will be hurdles and obstacles that cause you to lose faith in yourself and question whether you even have the ability and skill to make it.

Kamron Lawson, a 21-year-old cashier at a Walmart in West Virginia, stood before Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Prior to his audition, Kamron told the judges he was overwhelmed.

“Yes, I’m ready to be here,” he said. “I’m stoked. This is crazy!”

For his audition, the young man sang the 1980s hit “Take on Me” by a-ha. But instead of the upbeat, up-tempo song that most people are familiar with, Kamron took the tune in a completely different direction.

The 21-year-old cashier slowed the familiar song way down, performing a much more stripped-down version. Kamron’s first attempt was good, but the judges were left wanting more from the young man.

Instead of singing the same song, Kamron tried his hand at a Lionel Richie hit, “Truly.” He is visibly nervous and even misses his cue to begin singing. But he sticks in there and gives it another try.

Katy, before casting her vote, mentioned she saw something in the young man.

“I haven’t rolled the dice a whole lot, but there’s something about you that is sparkling at me,” she said. “And there’s something special about him. You know it when you look at him.”

Katy voted yes.

Lionel also gives the young man a yes vote. Luke also remarked that he saw potential in Kamron and gave him a yes.

Kamron, despite his nerves, is on his way to Hollywood!
