The Bible: A Brief History
Jesus Christ established one Church on earth (Matthew 16:18), "the pillar and foundation of truth (1 Timothy 3:15)." He positioned Peter as the first pope to guide the flock (John 21:15-17), and that position has been passed down through a linage of popes (Acts 1:20) to our current Pope Benedict XVI. And the gates of hell shall not prevail against this Church (Matthew 16:19).<br />
The Catholic Church is the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church that Jesus Christ himself established and sustains.
