DeWayne Crocker Jr. Brings Church To American Idol With 'Voice Of God'

Watch DeWayne Crocker Jr. bring church to American Idol with ‘Voice of God.’ His smooth voice will lift your soul.

This isn’t DeWayne Crocker Jr.’s first time on American Idol. He was also on last season!

DeWayne considers himself a gospel artist. “[Gospel] is the foundation of who I am and what I sing about.” He admitted that he has regrets about turning away from religious music the previous season to stick with mainstream songs. But this time, he wanted to show off his gospel roots.

His song choice, ‘Voice of God,’ was released in 2020 by Dante Bowe. In the original music video, the song is about 11 minutes long. It’s set up to be performed at a worship service and features Steffany Gretzinger and Chandler Moore.

All the musicians coming together to worship God is truly beautiful. And DeWayne was able to capture that beauty in his shortened version.

DeWayne starts his performance by showing off his piano-playing skills by accompanying himself. As the song builds, so does the emotion in his voice. Backup singers join along with other instruments, transporting you to service.

All of a sudden you’re met with the soulfulness that makes you want to stand up and praise the Lord. DeWayne’s vocals are so moving and inspiring.

The judges seemed to agree! Katy Perry said, “I felt those church chills.”

He talked about his grandmother praying for his success on the show. I think we can all agree his performance made her proud and proved God answered her prayers.
