Dolly Parton Reflects On Her Legendary Career

Dolly Parton Reflects On Her Legendary Career

In this video, Dolly Parton takes us back as she reflects on some of the major moments during her legendary career.

She started off in 1967 with her first album titled Hello, I’m Dolly. “There’s nothing like the first time for anything, right? And of course, being a singer and a songwriter, having your first album is especially special.” Dolly says that’s when she first felt like she was a real professional and she was really in the business.

Then Dolly shares about her time on The Porter Wagoner Show. “It was really that show that really got me over the moon as far as my career. That really kind of started it all for me, big time,” she said.

After she left The Porter Wagoner Show, Dolly went out on her own and started The Dolly Show. “I got to meet a lot of wonderful artists during that time. That’s when I met Kenny Rodgers,” she shared. “It really was a learning experience for me. It was a lot of hard work. Any time you do a weekly show like that, you gotta kind of work all week to get it done. But I met so many people, I learned so many things, that I applied to so many other projects later on down the line.”

Next, Dolly talked about when she did the movie 9 to 5. “9 to 5 was really a joy for me. It was something that I was not expecting,” she explained. “When Jane Fonda came to me and presented this idea to me, I thought, ‘Well, how can I not do this?’” Dolly shared about how this was one of the greatest times in her life and how she got inspired to write the movie’s theme song.

Once Dolly gets to 1986 in her career timeline, she shared about how she started Dollywood and how it had been a dream of hers for a long time. “I used to think early on in my career, if I ever get to be the star I want to be, as successful as I want to be, I want to do something great for my people back home. I want to honor my father and mother, as it says in the Bible. I didn’t leave home because I wasn’t happy there. I love the Smokey Mountains and I love my family, but I wanted to do more,” she said. “I thought, when I can, I would love to go back, and I would love to have a theme park. A place where people can go to have fun!”

Then in 1989, Dolly was in the movie Steel Magnolias. “I really liked the role that I played, and that was a huge success. I loved working with all those women.”

Dolly Parton ends the video talking about her new Christmas album that is out now and how excited she was to make it.

What a smart, talented, and kind woman Dolly Parton is! She truly deserves all the success she has had so far in her career.
