What a persistent faith looks like - Matt 15:21-28 (July 7, 2013)
Matt. 15:21-28
2 Peter 1:5-11
2. We are called to make every effort to instill godly traits in our lives, and to see that they are growing.
3. Faith - belief/trust/loyalty to the coming kingdom of God promised by the human Messiah Jesus, who died and rose for your sins.
4. Moral excellence – a standard of morality set by Jesus Christ, not by the world around us.
5. Knowledge – an understanding of your faith that you can speak intelligibly about.
6. Self-control – a mastery over your desires, impulses, cravings, and temptations.
7. Perseverance – patiently enduring under trials and testing without responding with evil or violence.
8. Godliness – a pious and reverent attitude towards the holy God who redeemed you.
9. Brotherly love – heart-felt compassion and service towards those around you.
10. Love – caring actions and words genuinely coming from the heart.
1 Corinthians 11:28-29
Applications:
1. The call to be a disciple of Jesus requires radical obedience, a steadfast commitment, and increasing godly traits.
2. If we have chosen to not address these areas in our life, we need to repent of our blindness and remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
3. Repentance and rededication to living wholly committed to God are prerequisites to participation in communion with Jesus.
