Skipping Game - Empangeni style

Skipping Game - Empangeni style

flick the stones at the kids and watch them jump!!!!
a traditional game played at the Empangeni Orphanage

This is a privately owned and funded Orphange in Empangeni, South Africa. It relies on support from volunteers.

In 2008 Our mission was to make a real difference to the lives of the children in the orphanage.

Land transport- jeeps for the journey from Johannesburg to Empangeni, and for use during the duration of the mission in 2008 was kindly provided by AVIS car hire

We were in South Africa for just 7 days but in that time we hoped we gave the children living in the Orphanage a safer and healthier environment in which to live by fitting 3 fully functioning kitchens.

The living conditions and health of the Children were also improved by laying paths to keep them out of the mud in the winter months.

Most of these orphans have AIDS or are HIV positive - with no shoes and the rough terraine, a cut to the foot and the harsh rain falls can result in infection from the mud and then death. The pathways round the orphange will help reduce that risk in rainy season.

We also put together 2 jungle gyms to give the children a fun place to play. Our resident artist, Chris, also did a 'live' size mural on the wall of one of the houses next to the play area - see the photos

The 2008 TEAM had volunteers from Torpoint Community Church, HMS Northumberland and a retired chippy from Northern Ireland
PROJECT 2009
