A year ago, families came to KARM because one of the parents struggled with addiction. Now they are just ordinary families struggling to get by. Our nation's economic crisis has wreaked havoc with the working poor. Families who barely made it from paycheck to paycheck suddenly have no paycheck at all. And if they have no safety net, no helpful family members, they end up at KARM. KARM gives all of the families who show up at our door immediate shelter. Equally important we offer job training and employment counseling. We help them focus on the things that prevent them from getting a new apartment--like unpaid bills--and develop a plan to get them back on their feet.
