Introduction for LookToJesus.com Bible study chat for John 5:31-47
Hi, friends:
I thought it would be nice to make a little video recording to give a run-down of our study for tonight.
John is such an amazing book. It's said to be simple enough for a child to understand but profound enough to challenge the most experienced believer.
Today's study follows last week's story about Christ healing the sick man at Bethesda. The Pharisees were angry with him for healing on the Sabbath. Just as the Temple had been their central, visible area of control, the interpretation of the Sabbath Law had become their individual, spiritual domain of control. Last week, Jesus answered their questions about the Sabbath with statements about the true nature of the Sabbath and of God. This week's continuation shows Him turning the tables on them and pointing out that they had ignored what John the Baptist had said about Him, they were ignoring the testimony of the mighty works He had done, they were ignoring the voice of the Father, and they were ignoring the testimony of the Scriptures themselves, including MOSES' writings!
They did not believe, He said, because they did not have the love of God abiding in them.
How about you and me? What if we had been there to see tradition turned upside down and someone claiming to be God's Messiah telling us we were all doing it wrong? Would we be able to receive Him?
I hope you'll join me tonight at 9:30PM to talk about this in our LookToJesus.com Bible study chat!
Thanks and may God greatly bless you as you sincerely seek Him
