'In the Time of Great Remembrance' Song For Loved Ones With Alzheimer's
“Oh Lord, please give me strength, steady these hands for they tremble and shake
Guide me through this hazy weight / show me that the dawn will break
There's a stranger praying next to my bed, great soul may I endure
Grant me the peace of one who rests assured, err the days that seemed so sure
The light of lore growing dim and obscure, there's a woman clinging to my hand
The jaw held clenched on the face of the other man, their faces, though I can't explain”
What a powerful and beautiful song! And the acoustic guitar and violin sound so good alongside Bradford’s vocals.
The lyrics of the song are all about the struggle of sharing love when your loved ones don't even know who you are. And Bradford gives such an emotional performance when he sings ‘In the Time of Great Remembrance.’
Bradford Loomis is no stranger to hard times. Around 2009, he had lost his job, his community, and his wife was sick with an illness that would have them going in and out of the ER and doctor’s office.
“Losing a job, a home, a community and supporting a sick spouse when jobs were as scarce could have broken anyone, yet this storm would not conquer Bradford Loomis,” reads his website. “His strife was fodder for hard-won songs and his fear fuel to push him toward a full-time career in music.”
“There is such a thing as good grief,” he muses. “I had walked away from music for ten years when we started a family. The grief we felt, the desperation of those hard times…without it, I doubt that I would have come back to it in any meaningful way or that we would have ever taken the leap to going all in with it.”
Bradford’s music reminds us that we’re not alone in the hard times of life. We’re in this together and can be a light to others when they feel downtrodden and weary.
