Mark Lowry Performs ‘Mary, Did You Know?’

Christmas is a wonderful time of year, recognizing and celebrating the moment Jesus Christ entered the world. His birth, wholly undeserving and painful death and resurrection from the grave forever changed the world. No child's birth has or will forever change the trajectory of the world like that of Jesus Christ. He provides comfort and healing and redeems the lost.
While Jesus correctly is and forever will be the central figure in the biblical Christmas story, one beloved Christmas song attempts to look at things from a different figure’s point of view: Mary.
The Bible mentions that Mary, a virgin, was visited by an angel of God. This heavenly being told her that she would give birth to a son, and she was to call him Jesus. Imagine the stress, worry and confusion she must have felt at that time.
The tune “Mary, Did You Know?” asks the woman who gave birth to Jesus Christ a series of questions about whether she knew just how much her little boy would change everything.
Mark gave a remarkable and inspired performance as he sang about the man who changed it all. The tune’s opening verse perfectly puts into perspective the significance and magnitude of Jesus Christ’s birth in that lowly manger all those years ago.
“Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy
Has come to make you new?
This child that you delivered will soon deliver you”
What a tremendous responsibility placed on that young woman’s shoulders, giving birth to and raising the man who would save sinners. There’s no way she could have ever known how much her baby boy would change the world. But praise God that she was a faithful and willing servant.
Luke 1:38 “And Mary said: ‘I am the servant of the Lord; may it be to me as you say’ And the angel went away.”

A Prayer to Stay on the Path of Righteousness - Your Daily Prayer - October 5
Staying on the path of righteousness takes work; many distractions and hindrances exist. But, each day, we have a choice: will we choose God and His ways, which are better than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), or the way of the world that leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14)?
