Plane Crash Survivor Kechi Earns Simon's Golden Buzzer

Plane crash survivor Kechi Okwuchi returns to the America’s Got Talent stage with an inspiring performance. Kechi was just 16 years old when she was in a horrific plane crash that took the lives of 107 people. She was one of only two survivors and the crash left her battling to heal physically and emotionally. Kechi was trapped in her hospital bed, bandaged from head to foot, unable to walk. During this time music was her escape. Though she always loved to sing, her passion grew stronger while she healed.

Years later, she decided to follow her dreams and audition for America’s Got Talent. Her story touched everyone’s heart but it was Kechi’s voice that really struck a chord. She made it all the way to the finals, but lost to teen ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer. Now, Kechi is back for another shot at winning on America’s Got Talent: The Champions.

This special format features 50 contestants who have won or been featured on previous editions of the show. These competitors come from all over the world and now they’re all vying for the ultimate winner’s title.

Since her first audition, Kechi has traveled the world, sharing her beautiful voice and confidence in the face of tragedy. As she steps on stage this time, there is no holding back the emotion as she belts out "You Are The Reason" by Callum Scott. Her performance truly showcased why she deserves to be among champions and judge Simon Cowell agreed. He said, “Based on what I’ve seen tonight…I didn’t really like it that much. I actually loved it.” That’s when Simon pressed the golden buzzer and sent Kechi on to the next round. Who else was cheering too?
