The Jimmie Hale Mission has been serving men, women and children in Birmingham, Alabama, since 1944. What started as a storefront chapel has grown to include a shelter for men, alcohol and drug recovery programs, fundraising thrift stores, learning centers for education remediation and career readiness, and a shelter for women and children – Jessie’s Place, named in honor of Mission co-founder Ms. Jessie Hale Downs.
