The Jimmie Hale Mission has been serving men, women and children in Birmingham, Alabama, since 1944. What started as a storefront chapel has grown to include a shelter for men, alcohol and drug recovery programs, fundraising thrift stores, learning centers for education remediation and career readiness, and a shelter for women and children â€“ Jessieâ€™s Place, named in honor of Mission co-founder Ms. Jessie Hale Downs. Downtown Jimmie Hale Mission, Inc. is a Christian-based, 501c3 charitable organization which does not receive United Way funding.
