A Child or an Orphan?

Continually trying to please God by my good works is like trying to ride a bicycle by not falling off. I can't get anywhere—trying to ride a bicycle by not falling off. I will have my head down constantly, and will be on the ground more than I’m on the seat—hoping God doesn't notice.
But to live like God's child, instead of living like an orphan in constant fear of rejection, is to focus on where I’m going. If I fall off once in a while it's just no big deal, because I’m totally focused on where I’m going. And when I do fall off, God is right there to patch me up, give me a kiss on the cheek, dust me off, and tell me: “Now you get back up on that bike and ride! Ride!”
