6-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Bonds With Nurse And Now She Wants To Be Just Like Her

They say when someone copycats you, you should be flattered, and that is how this precious nurse feels. A six-year-old cancer survivor bonds with a nurse, and now she wants to be just like her. Averie Lazzara was diagnosed with cancer at the age of two, and that’s when she met an angel in disguise Jamie Rogers who became Averie’s favorite nurse.

When asked what she liked about Jamie, Averie said, “It’s because she’s so sweet!” Jamie, a pediatric nurse, has helped Averie every step of the way through her cancer journey. Averie’s mom Stacy says she couldn’t have gotten through all the treatments without Jamie because it made it easier to get Averie out the door. Averie looked forward to seeing her favorite person every day. And having Jamie there on the days when treatment made her feel terrible really helped her get through it.

Now that Averie is cancer-free, she wants to grow up and be just like Jamie. She can be seen in the video wearing scrubs and taking care of her doll ‘patients.’ When Averie is asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she promptly responds with a bright smile and says with enthusiasm, “Miss Jamie!”

When Jamie learned that Averie wants to be just like her, Jamie felt humbled. She says it’s the biggest compliment ever.

“Seeing these kids, going from scared and not wanting to be in (the) clinic to running through the waiting room to find their favorite nurse or their favorite doctor, it just means the world that we played a small part in that,” she said.

What a beautiful way to not only help others heal but also raise a new generation of caring and loving people who want to make the world a better place!

Matthew 25:44 “Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’”
