Baptist Preacher Allan Finnegan Brings The Laughs On BGT Semi-Finals

Baptist Preacher Allan Finnegan really had the audience cracking up on Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals.

Allan Finnegan, a 52-year-old Baptist minister, also happens to moonlight as a comedian. His stack of laughs landed him on Britain's Got Talent. He made jokes about what it’s like to be a minister and being on the show.

"People keep asking me what it's like being recognized in the street, I said I've got no idea. Every time I've been out I've had a mask on,” Allen joked. When he first auditioned for the show, he told the judges he was a late bloomer of sorts when it comes to comedy and modestly joked he wasn’t that good at it.

However, David Williams said, 'You were super funny and memorable.’ Alesha Dixon called him a 'breath of fresh air,' and Amanda Holden said he made her 'want to go to church.' Simon Cowell said, 'The audience loves you, you've got four yeses.'

For this final performance, he comes out on stage with a pulpit built especially for the show. He lends his sense of humor about being a minister in various situations. He admits that one of his least favorite parts of his job is officiating funerals. He explains that he’s not very good at them!

“Just before Christmas my only uncle passed away, God rest his soul, and well… I had him in the Secret Santa! So every cloud [has its silver lining.] Saved me 20 quid, that did!” he joked.

He also joked about forgetting the deceased’s name during a funeral.

“‘I forgot to put the deceased’s name down on my notes, I think it’s Hilda but I can’t be sure. The next minute it feels like a game of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’” Allen joked.

“I’d have loved to have gone 50/50 or phone a friend – I am just glad it wasn’t ‘Deal Or No Deal’, I wasn’t going to open that box for no offer.”

He ended the performance with a slam dunk about his phone going off at the worst possible time. He had the audience rolling.
