Daddy-Daughter Duet To 'Let It Be' By The Beatles

In a world ravaged by COVID-19, there is perhaps one thing more contagious than a virus. It is hope. When things go awry and it feels dark, hope sheds light on what is good, what is true, and what endures. If you’re feeling a bit low and need a boost of faith, then you need to visit an unlikely source spreading hope to thousands who hear their voices; a daddy daughter duo, Mat and Savanna Shaw.

Savanna, a shy 15-year-old who loves choir asked her father one afternoon if he would sing with her. Mat had always loved to sing and even had a college scholarship for choir, but that dream was put on the shelf long ago in order to provide for his family of six.

He was out working in the backyard when Savanna had asked him to come sing with her but she requested he change his shirt first! She had created an Instagram account and Savanna wanted her first dive into the world of social media to be with her dad. For her first post, they sang, The Prayer, a hope filled song made famous by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.

“She wanted me to freshen up,” said Mat. “I was like, ‘Savanna, your choir friends aren’t going to care what I’m wearing. It’s not a big deal.’” Apparently, appearances didn’t seem to matter as the video went viral within days, garnering over six million views! Since recording The Prayer in February, the duo realized this was their moment to share their faith, love of music, and to spread hope.

On the Shaws’ many YouTube videos, thousands of people have left comments of gratitude. Many have said the music has given them hope and is helping them get through an otherwise dark time. One person reached out and said their version of The Prayer was played at a funeral of a family member. A couple reached out to inform the daddy daughter duo their music was played at their wedding.

Mat said, “It means a lot just to be able to be in a position now — especially in the times that we’re experiencing with this pandemic — to be able to share these messages of hope and encouragement through music,” he said. “Never in a million dreams would we have ever thought that our music would have this kind of impact. That’s been the best part.”

The Shaws have plans to ride the waves of making music a career for as long as they can. And now the latest song taking the world by storm and infusing hope is their rendition of Let It Be, by The Beatles. The song had originally been inspired by the death of Paul McCartney’s mother and has now become a source of hope through the voices of Mat and his daughter.

Like the scripture in the book of Job, the Shaws are helping to shine a light in the darkness to provide hope to many, “And your life will be brighter than the noonday; its darkness will be like the morning. And you will feel secure, because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security," Job 11:17-19.

The one thing more contagious than a virus is hope and so we’re just doing our small part in the world to spread some hope,” Mat said. If you need a moment to be uplifted, take a listen to this beautiful song that’s going viral!
