When Mom Suffered a Seizure, Her 3-Year-Old Son’s FaceTime Call Saved Her Life

When mom suffered a seizure, her 3-year-old son’s FaceTime call saved her life. When Cody noticed his mama wasn’t answering him, something inside that little heart stirred an instinct placed there by the very God who commands angels to guard us.

Shantell Woods had been cooking in her Michigan home when dizziness swept over her. Moments later, she collapsed, her body overtaken by a severe epileptic seizure. Unconscious and alone except for her tiny son, she lay helpless on the couch.

God Was Watching Out

But God wasn’t done writing her story that day.

Cody, barely tall enough to reach the counter, did something miraculous. He picked up his mother’s phone, pressed it gently to her face to unlock it, and then opened FaceTime. Somehow, with the steady determination of love, he called Kaya, a family friend and neighbor. Can you imagine that!

On the other end of the line, Kaya answered, confused at first until she realized it wasn’t Shantell’s voice she heard, but Cody’s. That one brave call brought help running.

“I was surprised but happy he knew what to do in that moment,” Kaya said.

When paramedics arrived, Shantell’s life was spared. And a few days later, at a press conference surrounded by flashing cameras and proud smiles, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office made Cody a junior deputy—just in time for his fourth birthday.

Standing beside her son, eyes glistening, Shantell whispered, “I want to cry right now. He’s just my hero.”

His Faith Was Big Enough

Sheriff Michael Bouchard smiled at her and said the words every mama longs to hear: “You’ve done a good job, mom.”

Sometimes God sends help in uniforms and flashing lights. And sometimes, He sends it in the form of a little boy with faith big enough to move mountains—and fingers small enough to dial FaceTime.

Because heaven’s heroes don’t always wear badges, sometimes, they wear light-up sneakers and call you “Mom.”
