Lesbians Seek Surrogacy Status

Lesbians Seek Surrogacy Status

The Victorian Government has tabled legislation for assisted reproductive technology, seeking legal surrogate pregnancy, along with access to IVF for gays, lesbians and single people. Both major parties have said they will allow a conscience vote on the legislation, which is based on an extensive Law Reform Commission process. Laws allowing IVF access to single women and lesbians are not in the best interest of children. Evidence supports the fact that children do best when raised by both a mother and a father, says Australian Christian Lobby managing director Jim Wallace. Jim Wallace talks to Francine Bell from InFocus. Mr Wallace recommends the @!$$ Discrimination Act be amended to allow states and territories to restrict access to IVF to married women and women in hetero%%!$ual de facto relationships. The ACL also wants existing religious exemptions in the %#@#% Discrimination Act to remain.
