I am a pretty strong believer that to do serious Bible study you need several translations of the Word.. Since the Bible wasn't dictated word-for-word from God, but was written by humans through inspiration by the Holy Spirit, a fuller understanding of God's messege comes through studying various versions-- and secular books like dictionaries and encyclopedias.
