'He Touched Me / Because He Lives' Medley From Steven Curtis Chapman

Steven Curtis Chapman sings a beautiful medley of three classic songs beloved by many —

‘He Touched Me,’ ‘There’s Something About That Name,’ and ‘Because He Lives.’ The audience is entranced by his performance and the beauty of the three songs. You can tell that there is such a feeling of peace in the room while Steven is singing the lyrics which are so wonderful and true.

“He touched me, oh He touched me,
And oh the joy that floods my soul!
Something happened and now I know,
He touched me and made me whole”

The song ‘He Touched Me’ is a gospel song written in 1963 by Bill Gaither. It was recorded by many artists throughout the years, including Elvis. He even made the song his title track for his gospel album that won a Grammy in 1972.

Bill Gaither said that one of his preacher friends inspired him to write ‘He Touched Me.’ His friend said to him, “the word ‘touch’ is a very popular word. It comes up so often in the New Testament stories about Jesus touching people's eyes and healing them or touching people's lives and changing them. It's a special, spiritual word and you ought to write a song that praises His touch.” And that’s exactly what Bill did.

The next song that Chapman sings is ‘There’s Something About That Name,’ and it was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither in 1970. This is another hymn that has become a favorite to many over the years.

“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all Heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away,
But there’s something about that name.”

‘Because He Lives’ is the last song that Chapman covers in this medley. The song is based on the verse John 14:19 — “Because I live, you also will live.” It was also written by Bill and Gloria Gaither in 1971.

“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!”

All three of these songs were covered so beautiful by Steven Curtis Chapman in this video! He even blends them together so seamlessly that they almost sound like they are one song instead of three. What a blessing to be uplifted by such wonderful songs performed by such a talented artist!
