ANIMA CHRISTI
A traditional prayer by Saint Ignatius, usually said after receiving Holy Communion, from my new album "Our Catholic Faith - 2nd Edition" available at: www.donnacorigibson.com/OurCatholicFaith.html. (It's a new recording, with the string accompaniment beautifully enhanced.)
The prayer is from around the 14th century. Although its authorship was once attributed to St. Ignatius Loyola, who included it in his "Spiritual Exercises", it was subsequently discovered in a number of prayer books printed during Ignatius' youth and in manuscripts written a hundred years before his birth (1491). Some now credit its authorship to Pope John XXII, although that is by no means certain.
