Why is often a cry of pain and agony. When Jesus cried out on the Cross, he did so in Aramaic, the language that the common people who were at the Cross would have understood. At the same time he was quoting Psalm 22, a Psalm they also would have been familiar with. He did this to show that even in his agony; he was fulfilling the Old Testament.
