The Hairbrush Song

In the episode, Are You My Neighbor?, Larry cries out over his missing hairbrush. Junior Asparagus hears Larry’s song and points out that Larry doesn’t actually need a hairbrush because he has no hair. (Larry is a cucumber after all!)

Then, Bob the Tomato enters and confesses that he has given Larry’s hairbrush to the Peach. Because he has hair.

Finally, The Peach enters and sings simply, “Thanks for the hairbrush.”

Larry is happy that he’s done a good deed, but still a little sad over the loss of his possession. He calls after The Peach to take good care of his hairbrush.

The Hairbrush Song Lyrics

Oh, where is my hairbrush? Oh where is my hairbrush? Oh, where
Oh, where, oh, where, oh, where, oh, where, oh, where, oh, where, oh
Where oh, where is my hairbrush?

Love My Lips

In this song, Larry shares a deep fear with his doctor. He’s afraid of losing his lips.

He then shares stories from his childhood. In one, his lips got cold and turned blue, and in another they got stuck in a gate and his friends laughed at him.

Because this is a Silly Song, the doctor doesn’t resolve much, but at least Larry got to vent, and that probably made him feel better!

Love My Lips Lyrics

If my lips ever left my mouth,
Packed a bag and headed south,
That'd be too bad, I'd be so sad.

The Water Buffalo Song

In the episode, Where’s God When I’m S-Scared? The Water Buffalo Song made its debut as the very first Silly Song!

Larry happily sings about everyone having a water buffalo when Archibald comes in and stops him for being too silly. Archibald points out that everyone does NOT have a water buffalo. He rants a bit about Larry’s ridiculous lyrics and storms off as the narrator concludes the segment.

The Water Buffalo Song Lyrics

Everybody's got a water buffalo
You know your's is fast but, mine is slow Oh, where do we get them you ask I don't know
But everybody's got a water buffalo

The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything

The band, Reliant K lends their pop-punk sound to this silly song. The chorus sums everything up neatly and it’s just like the title implies.

The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything Lyrics - Chorus

We are the pirates who don't do anything
We just stay at home and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything
We'll just tell you we don't do anything!

The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything Lyrics - Verse

Well, I've never plucked a rooster, and I'm not too good at ping pong
And I've never thrown my mashed potatoes up against the wall. And I've never kissed a chipmunk, and I've never gotten head lice
And I've never been to Boston in the Fall!

Each verse ends with never having been to Boston in the Fall. And I’m not going to lie, anytime anyone even MENTIONS Boston around me, this song will randomly pop into my head and stay there all day.

Sneeze If You Need To

Sneeze if You Need To first aired as a Silly Song from Abe and the Amazing Promise VeggieTales episode. This episode’s lesson is patience, and it tells the story of Abraham’s promise in documentary style.

Sneeze If You Need To Lyrics

Sneeze if you have to! Sneeze if you need to!
Don't hold it in, just be sure that you cover your mouth with a tissue. I will assist you.
Sneeze all your troubles away at up to a hundred and fifty miles an hour!

VeggieTales Theme Song

The VeggieTales Theme Song opens with Bob the Tomato suggesting that Larry play the guitar for the song, and Larry pointing out that he has no arms.

He then agrees to play tuba for the opening number, but only if the kids at home don’t laugh at him.

Bob shares that if you like to “talk to tomatoes” or “if a squash can make you smile” then “Have we got a show for you!”

I have to admit, I’ve never wanted to waltz with potatoes in the produce aisle, but picturing it does bring a huge smile to my face every time!

If there’s one thing for sure, there’s never ever ever ever ever been a show like Veggie Tales!

VeggieTales Theme Song Lyrics

If you like to talk to tomatoes, if a squash can make you smile,
If you like to waltz with potatoes, up and down the produce aisle
Have we got a show for you!

Belly Button

Belly Button is a Silly Song that departed from the traditional format. Larry explains that there’s a time to be serious and show how they feel artistically.

Then Mr. Lunt confesses through song, that he has a secret that he can no longer contain. “There’s something missing in my middle, and it’s hard to ignore.” The thing that he’s never shared before is that he doesn’t have a belly button.

As they all bemoan his loss, his doctor enters and explains that as a gourd, he’s technically a fruit. And so his “belly button” is technically on top of his head. He then explains that his shirt would cover it, but his insurance would not.

Belly Button Lyrics

Boyz: He needs to tell you something
Mr. Lunt: I don't got a belly button, Oh I need to tell you something
Boyz: Have you figure it out, He don't got a belly button. Belly Button no, oh no no

God Is Bigger

This song probably has the sweetest sentiment out of any of the VeggieTales songs. It simply reassures the kids that no matter what they're afraid of, God is bigger. This is a reminder we all need to hear from time to time!

God Is Bigger Lyrics

God is bigger than the boogie man.
He's bigger than Godzilla,Or the monsters on TV.
Oh, God is bigger than the boogie man. And He's watching out for you and me.

The Bunny Song

The Bunny Song was originally released in the episode ‘Rack, Shack & Benny,’ with two lines of the lyrics that met with much controversy. One line read, “I don’t love my mom or my dad, just the bunny.” And Mr. Nezzer goes on to sing, “I won’t go to church, and I won’t go to school.” (The updated versions of these lines are bolded in the lyrics section below for comparison.)

Show creator, Phil Vischer said that it was his hope that when kids saw the heroes of the episode refuse to sing the song that they would understand the lesson. But when parents wrote in complaining that their children were singing the song in public, he understood that the kids didn’t fully understand the context and he changed the lyrics.

The Bunny Song Lyrics Controversy

In the updated version of the lyrics, the controversial lines about not loving Mom and Dad have been replaced:

The bunny, the bunny, whoa, I love the bunny
I don't love my soup or my bread, just the bunny. The bunny, the bunny, yeah, I love the bunny
I gave everything that I had for the bunny

The second updated line that previously referenced not going to church or school now reads:

I won't eat no beans, and I won't eat tofu
That stuff is for sissies, but bunnies are cool!

His Cheeseburger

Anyone who has ever craved Chick-Fil-A on a Sunday can probably sympathize with this song. The singer pulls up to a Burger-Bell and orders a burger and shake. Sadly, he’s told he can’t have either because they’re closed.

He vows to wait until morning but is hilariously swayed by a sign promoting half-off bacon and eggs at Denny’s. At this point, he changes his tune and leaves for breakfast, promising to come back for his burger at lunchtime.

His Cheeseburger Lyrics

'Cause you're his cheeseburger, His yummy cheeseburger
He'll wait for you; yeah, he'll wait for you

Silly Songs with Larry

Silly songs with Larry were always my favorite segment of the VeggieTales episodes. I must admit, that when my kids were very young, I would sometimes pop in a VHS tape (because that’s how they were originally released!) and rewatch this section of the video. (AFTER I’d put my kids to bed.)

Someone else must agree with me because they went to the trouble to loop these songs back to back into an hour-long extravaganza of silly! Watch this if you’re ever needing a little pick-me-up!

Today's Devotional

A Prayer for Victory over Sinful Thoughts - Your Daily Prayer - July 26

Victory over sinful thoughts starts with dependence upon God to stay free from enslaving sin. It’s a life lived with a surrendered mouth and heart before God. Winning requires us to remember our Rock, who rescues us and gives us a firm standing place, and our Redeemer, who rescues us from total loss.
