A pregnant mom’s movie night with her son takes an unexpected turn when she gives birth mid-film. Can you imagine the story this little girl will have? Molly Connah took her nine-year-old son, Alfie, to see Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Broughton, Wales. They expected popcorn, a little movie magic, and maybe a chat about Hogwarts on the way home. Instead, Alfie met his baby sister. Talk about a surprise ending!

Pregnant Mom Goes to the Movies One Day Past Her Due Date

Molly was one day past her due date, but she had seen her midwife earlier that afternoon and felt well enough for a movie with Alfie. About 40 minutes in, while Harry and Hagrid shopped for school supplies, Molly began to feel contractions. Apparently, baby Elsie was ready to make her entrance, and she had no intention of waiting for the credits.

“I can remember the scene I was watching when I walked out,” Molly said. As her contractions grew stronger, she called the hospital, then her husband, Scott, to come get her. Elsie, however, had her own schedule.

Gives Birth During Harry Potter

Cineworld manager Michelle McClean and employee Leah Prytherch stepped in to help. Staff called emergency services and gathered towels and sheets to give Molly privacy. “They shielded me with towels and sheets so no one could see,” Molly said. “They were absolutely amazing.”

Soon Molly’s water broke. Before medical help arrived, she gave two pushes, and Elsie Lamb was born at 4:57 p.m. No wand required, though I think everyone there would agree that birth is its own kind of wonder. A paramedic arrived moments later, and Scott came shortly after his daughter’s birth. Molly and Elsie went to the hospital, where both were doing well.

Big Brother Alfie Gets the Surprise of a Lifetime

And Alfie? He’s already taken to big brotherhood with his whole heart. Molly says he loves holding Elsie, feeding her, and helping with diaper changes. One day, when she asks how he first met her, he’ll have a story no other big brother can top.

The family thanked the theater staff with gifts and a card. Cineworld gave them four movie passes since they missed the end of Harry Potter. Perhaps they’ll make it through the whole film next time! As for Elsie, her birth certificate lists “Cineworld Broughton” as her place of birth.

Molly and Alfie went to the movies together that afternoon. They came home with someone new to love. Now that is a little movie magic they’ll remember forever.
