A 16-year-old’s quick thinking helped save his dad during a heart attack in Madison, Connecticut, giving one family the precious hope of more time together.

Noah White was the only other person at home when his father, John, collapsed and lost consciousness. At just 16, he faced a moment no child should have to face. His dad needed help, and until emergency responders arrived, Noah was the one who could give it. He called 911 and began CPR, using skills he had learned as a U.S. Navy Sea Cadet.

“I couldn’t just let him just sit there and pass away. I had to do something,” Noah said.

There is so much love tucked inside those plain words. This was his dad, and Noah kept helping do what he could until responders could take over.

When Noah reached his mother, Trisha, her first thought was the question every family dreads: Had she lost him?

Medical professionals later told her that her son’s quick response saved John’s life. The training Noah had practiced had become the help his own father desperately needed.

John was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he began recovering. At the time of the report, doctors were still working to understand what caused the heart attack, and the family was waiting to learn when he could come home.

Noah Says He Was Simply There at the Right Time

For Noah, the attention mattered far less than knowing his father was alive.

“I know everyone is calling me a hero, but that’s not like the way I see it,” he said. “I see it as I was there at the right time. I’m just glad that he’s safe and he’s going to be taken care of.”

His Family Holds Tight to the Hope of More Time Together

His mother was holding tightly to the possibility of having everyone home again.

“Just to know that like someday soon, we’ll have our family back together, is an incredible feeling,” Trisha shared.

After something like this, an ordinary day together becomes something worth celebrating. A familiar voice in the next room. Another conversation. More time to say, “I love you.”

Thank God for Noah’s preparation, the responders and medical team, and the hope this family gets to carry as John heals.
