Backyard Pool Gets Some Unexpected Guests When Momma Bear and Cubs Stop By

How many times do you hear a toddler scream, "There are bears in the pool!” to find your backyard pool literally filled with black bears? The answer should be never, but for this New Jersey mom and dad, that’s exactly what happened on one hot summer day. They watched from their window as a mama bear and her 5 cubs took over their pool.

Mama Bear and 5 Cubs Take Over the Backyard Pool

The six bears wreaked absolute havoc as they grabbed pool floaties, investigated the backyard swingset, and climbed in and out of the water. They made the water very dirty as they swam. 

The Basso family’s little girl was not happy about it. “They took my floatie!” she said sorrowfully. The dad wasn’t too pleased either. “They’re going to be poking holes in it with their feet in the floor,” he said. The girl replied, “We’re gonna have to buy a new pool?” “I don’t know sweetie, I think our pool is shot,” the dad said.

Cubs Have a Blast Playing in the Backyard

It’s funny to see one of the cubs take a floatie from the pool and drag it into the bushes, while another jumps off the slide. At one point, the mama bear pulls the pool’s electrical pump into the water while it’s still connected to the cord.

“Oh no!” the family shouts. Fortunately, though, Mama Bear is okay, and nothing happens. 

The Family Watches as the Bears Make Themselves at Home

As the family continues to watch the family of bears make a mess, the little girl says, “I wish the bears were in someone else’s yard, not ours.” Due to the damage, the family told ABC7 News that they will be getting a new pool.

It’s not every day you get to see some bears have a pool party, and it’s likely a memory that the Basso family will never forget.
