These Women Are On a Mission to Help Seniors Feel Independent Again, One Boutique at a Time

Two special women are on a mission to give people in retirement homes the shopping experience they miss. These women are helping seniors in a very special way... It’s an important service that only they thought to provide.

Danielle Marquedant and Shauna Nordlund founded Golden Boutique, a traveling shopping experience that brings clothes directly into retirement facilities across Minnesota. It gives residents the opportunity to browse, try on items, and purchase them.

Both women worked in long-term care before deciding to open their traveling boutique.

“We saw firsthand how difficult it can be for residents and their families to access clothing that is both practical and makes them feel good,” they said, adding that their mission is to inspire “independence, dignity, and joy.”

Giving Them a Normal Experience They’ve Missed

When Golden Boutique is on the scene, they bring a full retail-like experience with shopping racks and displays.

“One of the most common things we hear is, ‘I haven’t been shopping in years,’” they shared. Some even say, “I haven’t been shopping in 100 years.”

They carry a wide range of sizes and even include adaptive clothing for those with mobility or medical needs. Residents can ask for specific requests, which the founders do their best to fulfill.

Restoring ‘Confidence and Joy’

“Seeing the confidence and joy it brings to residents is everything,” they said.

One of their most special moments was when a woman who was nearing the end of her life was able to wear adaptive nightgowns that felt more like herself.

“It’s more than clothing,” the founders said. “It’s about giving people a sense of normalcy and independence again.”

The founders go the extra mile to make everyone happy. They even have a Golden gift fund, which helps cover purchases for residents who may not have the financial means. They also accept clothing donations.

It’s so wonderful that these women have made time to help these seniors.
