Teens Saw a House On Fire, Kick Down the Door, and Rescued Two Dogs

Teens saw a house on fire, kicked down the door, and rescued two dogs. Can you believe it? Sometimes bravery doesn’t look like a soldier in uniform or a firefighter with sirens blazing. Sometimes it looks like three 17-year-old boys in sneakers and T-shirts, running headfirst into a burning house because life—any life—is worth saving.

On an ordinary Saturday in West Jordan, Utah, Carter Jacobson, Gabriel Hernandez, and Camerin Inselsberger were doing yard work when Gabriel spotted smoke spiraling up the street. Within moments, the three friends, along with Camerin’s dad, were racing toward the flames.

They Made the Decision to Run Into the House

“We all kind of made the decision to just run in,” Carter said later. “We knocked on the door. No one answered. I looked through the window and I see a dog. And so our first thought was, ‘Hey, let’s get this door open.’”

Doorbell camera footage now seen by hundreds of thousands shows the boys slamming their shoulders and legs into the locked door until it finally gave way. Inside, the air was thick, heat rolling like waves. Carter sprinted to the laundry room, where he found two terrified dogs, trembling and pressed into the corner. “That’s something I won’t forget,” he said quietly. “Just how scared the dogs were.”

The Homeowners Arrived Home

Meanwhile, Gabriel dashed into another part of the house, singeing his hair as fire licked through the rooms and a propane tank hissed nearby. Camerin helped lead the frantic rescue as flames grew higher. Only thirty seconds after the boys escaped, the entire home was engulfed.

Minutes later, the homeowners arrived. Carter remembers the moment vividly. “She’s crying, she goes, ‘Where’s my dog?’ I’m like, ‘We already got them out.’”

That’s courage—holy, God-given courage.

It reminds us that God doesn’t wait until we’re older, wiser, or more prepared to call us into brave acts. He places His Spirit of courage even in the young. As Paul once told Timothy: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).

The Teens Knew They Had to Rescue the Two Dogs

Carter, Gabriel, and Camerin didn’t have time to weigh the risk. They just chose love over fear. And maybe that’s what bravery really is—doing the hard, dangerous, sacrificial thing, because someone else’s life depends on it.

Friend, may we look at these boys and remember: God delights in using the least expected. He calls teenagers, mamas, grandmothers, and everyday people into moments that change everything. And when we step into that fire—literal or not—He is the One who gives us courage.
