1 Man Took A Selfie With The Same Barber For Over 50 Years And The Results Are Captivating

One man, Sam Farr, back in the 1970s, took a photo with his barber and did not know how much that photo would mean to him and his hairstylist.

Technology is a pervasive and ever-changing aspect of our society. Thanks to the iPhone and Android, everyone can be a content creator. Instagram, Facebook and Twitter are littered with useless photos and videos showing the work of aspiring filmmakers and content creators.

In the 1970s, Sam Farr, took a “selfie” of himself with his barber, Joe Pace, decades before the now-ubiquitous word was ever a part of the lexicon, according to Good News Network. 

After that initial photo in 1973, Sam continued to visit Joe to get his ear lowered. He also kept capturing pictures of the two of them. Sam captured photos of the two of them over the decades. In fact, he did it four more times – in 1985, 2007, 2015 and 2023, the outlet reports.

While the camera and their appearances may have changed slightly, the two men always sport big grins. Another thing that has not changed over the years is Sam’s hairstyle. It’s a haircut that he describes as “aging Beatle.”

Sam, a former newspaper photographer, admits that the first time he took the photo, it was because he wanted to test out his camera. 

“I used to take photos for so many people back then but never took pictures of myself, so I decided to snap one and started a tradition,” Sam said.

The Two Men Have Grown To Be Close Friends Over The Years

In a video posted on YouTube, the two friends joke back and forth about their long-term friendship. When it comes to Joe's job, it's about more than cutting hair. It’s about the people who have grown to become more than Joe’s customers.

“And we’re not customer-client relationship. What we are is friends,” Joe said. “And great friends, I would say. We’ve shared dinners together; we’ve been away together. They’ve joined me on my holiday trips. It really goes a lot deeper than just a client-customer relationship.”

When Joe’s time on earth ends, he knows what he wants to be doing up until that moment. 

“If I can absolutely die doing this, then I’m doing the best thing that I could have ever had done,” Joe said.
