Police Officer Learns Distraught Man Just Needs A Hug And His Act Of Compassion Goes Viral

People hurting, struggling and dealing with one painful situation or another are all around us. A sheriff’s deputy's simple but touching gesture toward one young man in pain man has gotten a lot of attention.

Life can be overwhelming at times. Situations can push people to their limits, making them feel like the entire world is against them. Sometimes, just being a shoulder to cry on can make a ton of difference to someone hurting.

For one young man, Macomb County, Michigan Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Thorne was that shoulder to lean on and cry upon during a tough time, according to WTKR.

Deputies responded to a 911 call after someone reported seeing an individual in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked along a road. When deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered a man in obvious pain.

Deputy Thorne’s body camera footage revealed a young man literally crying out for help. Deputy Thorne asked the young man crying if there was anything he could do to help him.

The young man, through tears, can be heard asking the deputy for a hug. Deputy Thorne answers in the affirmative to the request.

That kind and tender moment has gotten a ton of attention, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. The department’s Facebook page mentions they “received calls, emails, and posts from all over the U.S, and even Canada and Mexico” thanking the deputies for how they handled the situation.

Deputy Thorne told Fox 2 Detroit that his reaction to the young man was natural, instinctual.

“I could tell that this young man had a lot on his chest,” Deputy Thorne said. “His feelings were just overwhelming him. I’ve been in that position before. And I knew when we people embraced me when I was like that, it made the world to me.”

The body camera footage also shows the deputies instructing the young man to “call us” if he cannot get help from a number the deputies gave him.
